UN says in talks to reconnect some Russian banks to SWIFT

U.N., Apr 13 (PRIME) -- The U.N. is in negotiations with the executives of banking messaging system SWIFT on reconnection of some Russian banks to the system in the framework of the grain deal, spokesman for the secretary general Stephane Dujarric said late on Wednesday.

"Obviously, the fact that a number of Russian financial institutions are not, if not all of them, I’m not sure, are not in the SWIFT system makes things more complicated. And we are in discussions with the people who are responsible for SWIFT and the Europeans and others on that," the official said.

Dujarric also said that the U.N. has no authority over the executives of the company, the countries that introduced unilateral sanctions, insurers and transport companies, which if why the negotiations on grain deal fulfillment are facing serious challenges.
